Recognising the significance of the Project the State Government of Uttar Pradesh has generously offered approximately 750 acres (300 hectares) in Kushinagar.

A comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Maitreya Project Trust in India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh on 9 May 2003. The MOU was developed over a 12-month period and represents an excellent basis from which the State Government and Maitreya Project can proceed with a shared vision for the Project.

Before Maitreya Project is able to take possession of the land site in Kushinagar, there is a legal and administrative process to be followed according to government procedure. This is steadily progressing and Maitreya Project expects to take possession of the land site by the end of 2004.

The next phases of detailed design and construction will be based in India. We expect to mobilise the engineering team and open Delhi and Lucknow offices towards the end of 2004.
