The vision of Maitreya Project is to effect peace at every
level of society through the practice of loving-kindness:
peace within the individual, the family, the community
and the world.
Art and architecture eloquantly express and remind us
of our ideals and aspirations. By its sheer size, the
500-foot/152-metre statue of the Maitreya Buddha to be
built will be a world monument. Just as the Taj Mahal
and the Statue of Liberty speak to us respectively of
love and freedom, so will the Maitreya statue stand as
an icon, loving-kindness, engendering the good heart,
promoting world peace.
In addition to the statue, the Maitreya Project includes
a throne building with public temples and exhibition halls;
landscaped parks; and a distinguished collection of sacred
relics and art objects. Putting into action the loving-kindness
that it espouses, the Project will provide a host of education
and health care programmes of international standard,
as well as hospitality services.
Significantly, the Maitreya Buddha statue is being designed
to last for at least 1,000 years. This specification tests
the limits of engineering and architectural know-how,
but it means that through this millenium and into the
next, the statue will endure to effect positive change
within the hearts and minds of all who see it; and bring
social and economic benefit to the people of its locale.
